Henley Women’s Regatta 2023

On the 16-18th June, the ULBC women raced at Henley Women’s regatta.

The women fielded two eights, a single, and two composite pairs this year, in the Championship 8+, 2- and 1x categories, and the Aspirational Academic 8+.

Overall a successful weekend for the squad, the highlight being a win in Championship Pairs for final year medic Emily Lindberg in a composite with IC Women’s captain Lizzie Witt- her second win in this event, having won in 2021 with Issy Powell. This pair, coached by Tom Gale, knocked out Cambridge 99s, Thames RC and Upper Thames to make the final, whilst on the other side of the draw, ULBC’s Phoebe Snowden and Leander pairs partner Abi Topp knocked out Aberdeen, Leicester, and Oxford to also make the final. In a purple vs purple final, the UL/IC pair took the win by 3 1/4 lengths over the UL/Leander pair.

Georgie Robinson Ranger raced the championship single, knocking out Leander & Walbrook scullers to make the semi-final, in which she was knocked out by Canberra’s (Aus) Cara Grzeskowiak, a previous Australian national team rower, after a tough race.

In the eights, the championship crew beat out a Galway crew in the first round, but met their match in the second round against a tough Leander crew. In the Academic eights, the crew beat a strong Bath crew in the first round, and were then knocked out by an impressive Exeter first eight in the second.
