Where It Began

ULBC has been a presence on the Tideway since 1912 — through two World Wars, the transformation of British rowing, and the rise of international competition. The club has never stopped producing athletes who compete at the top of the sport.

The 48 Henley Royal Regatta victories span generations of athletes, each generation building on the last. That continuity — from the early crews of the 1920s through to the current squad — is what makes ULBC’s record genuinely rare in British rowing.

Pathway to International Rowing

ULBC is recognised as a British Rowing High Performance Programme, supporting athletes progressing toward U23 and Senior national teams. The club has produced 214 U23 and Senior World Championship athletes — a figure that places it among the most distinguished university rowing programmes in the world.

Many ULBC athletes have combined study in London with full international competition calendars, developing both academically and athletically during their time at the club. The pathway from ULBC to the GB senior team is well established and well travelled.

The Tradition Continues

ULBC crews have achieved sustained success across domestic and international rowing for over a century. The club holds 48 Henley Royal Regatta victories and continues to compete for titles at the sport’s most prestigious events. This tradition places ULBC among the most distinguished rowing programmes in the world.
