The provisional results for the Women’s Eights Head Of The River Race 2016 were the best for the University Of London in a decade, before a time penalty was imposed upon the UL Women’s 1st Eight.
The UL Women’s 1st Eight posted the 6th fastest time of the day, coming second in the University pennant category to only Cambridge University’s Blue Boat. The crew later received a time penalty of seven seconds, which sadly dropped them from 6th to 11th. The race was won overall by a Great Britain development crew, with Molesey Boat Club third (coxed by ULBC coach Henry Fieldman).
The UL Women’s 2nd Eight produced their best performance of the season so far, beating Oxford Brookes 2nd Eight by ten seconds but behind Newcastle, and finished only four seconds behind Durham University’s 1st Eight.
Two University Of London colleges also put in solid performances with both UCL and King’s College recording a time quicker than Oxford Brookes 3rd Eight.
The ULBC Women next compete at Kingston Head this Saturday alongside the ULBC Men, who spent this weekend training against neighbours Tideway Scullers and Quintin Boat Club as they prepare for Head Of The River on the 19th of March.
