ULBC SUCCESS AT BUCS HEAD 2017 – UL athletes return with a total of 72 medals

The University of London returned from BUCS Head 2017, held in Newcastle, with 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals and the Women’s Overall Team Trophy, for dominance in both Women’s sweep and sculling.

The UL Women’s 1st Eight took Gold in Championship Eights, defending the title won last year. This success was quickly followed by Silver for the UL Women’s 2nd Eight in the Intermediate Eights category. Some of the squad then moved to sculling for the afternoon racing. UL impressively took Gold in both the Championship and Intermediate Quad categories. There were further medals in both the Championship Coxless Fours and Intermediate Coxed Four categories.

The UL Men’s 1st Eight went out to get the double for UL by adding the Men’s Championship Eights title to the Women’s title, but had to settle for a well earned Silver medal. The UL Men’s 2nd and 3rd Eights, racing together in the Intermediate Eights category, took Second and Fourth to bring home another medal.

The large strength in depth of the UL Men’s program was shown earlier in the day when UL took both Gold and Silver in Men’s Intermediate Coxed Fours, along with medals in both the Championship Coxless and Coxed Fours categories. This placed the UL Men second overall in the Men’s Victor Ludorum.

The University of London races next at Hammersmith Head this coming Sunday, as part of preparations for the Women’s Head of the River and Head of the River next month.
