12 Apr GB TRIALS – UL athletes ready for Senior, U23 and FISU trials
Eighteen University of London athletes are set to be involved in this weekend’s GB Rowing Team Senior, U23 and FISU trials at Caversham
In the Openweight Men’s Coxless Pairs event three UL pairs are racing for FISU selection. All six athletes have U23 World Championship experience and have five U23 World Championship medals between them. They are joined by a UL U23 pair and then GB Senior Team member & 2016 World Champion Ollie COOK in a composite pair.
2016 World Champion Emily CRAIG races in the Lightweight Women’s Single and current U23 World Champion Charlotte HODGKINS-BYRNE races in the Openweight Women’s Single.
In the Openweight Women’s Coxless Pairs GB Senior Team member & King’s College, London masters student Sara PARFETT races in a composite pair. And there are then three further composite pairs with UL athletes in, all who have U23 or Junior World Championship experience.
ULBC has three coxes still involved in the trialing process at this point. GB Senior Team member Matilda HORN, who coxed the GB Women’s Eight at last year’s World Championships, double U23 World medalist Ian MIDDLETON aiming for FISU selection and Lauren HOLLAND aiming for U23 World or European Championship selection.
Graduate Student and U23 European Championship medalist Oonagh COUSINS will miss the trial due to a medical but remains in contention for FISU selection. FISU (The World University Rowing Championships) takes place in Shanghai, China in August. The U23 World Championships take place in July in Poznan, Poland and the senior World Championships in September in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
