UL fastest student crew and show depth at QUINTIN HEAD

This Saturday the first race of 2016 took place with the running of Quintin Head from Hammersmith to Chiswick, on the Tideway. UL had three men’s and two¬†women’s eights racing.

The UL Men’s 1st Eight, stroked by lightweight World U23 silver medalist Matthew Bedford, finished as the fastest university crew of the day and in the process won the Elite eights category. The Men’s 2nd Eight and 3rd Eights also finished in the top 20 crews overall of the day (out of 212 crews that raced), showing the team’s strong depth.

The UL Women’s 1st Eight finished as the second fastest university crew, behind Oxford University’s blue boat crew for the University Boat Race in March. The UL 1st Eight contained two freshers; Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne and Nuala Gannon, both who’ve raced at the Junior World Championships for Great Britain. The UL Women’s 2nd Eight also finished as the second fastest 2nd Eight on the day, also behind Oxford University.

The next event for ULBC is GB Trials in February, which is followed by BUCS Head as the team builds towards the Men’s and Women’s Heads Of The River in March.
