The ULBC Annual Dinner took place at Senate House, University of London on Friday 1st December. Close to two hundred alumni, current student athletes, guests and parents joined members of the University and GB Rowing Team to celebrate 2017’s successes.
The evening was opened by Sir Richard Dearlove, Chairman of the Trustees of the University of London; “The University of London Boat Club success brings great joy to all at the University.” After his introduction the three course meal was served with copious amounts of wine.
During the evening Simon Rey, member of the ULBC Trust Committee, shared with guests details of the work the Trust has done over the last few years, from employing the coaches to funding boat acquisitions. And stressing the importance of ensuring the Trust reserve is kept at its current level through increased or sustained donations.
The UL Dinner was also an opportunity for the club to celebrate the success of previous years through crew reunions. Members of the 1967 Grand 8+, the 1977 Ladies Plate 8+, 1997 Britannia 4+ and the 2007 Prince Albert 4+ were all present.
Our main speaker for the evening was Bill Latimer, part of the 1992 Grand winning crew, who were celebrating the 25th anniversary of their Henley success. He shared his journey from arriving in London from the USA to winning the Grand, all whilst doing his masters at the LSE and spending a few to many nights at the Ministry of Sound.
With the UL Annual Dinner taking place tomorrow we thought we’d take a look back at one of the crews we’ll be celebrating. This year is the 25th anniversary of UL’s 1992 Grand Challenge Cup victory @henleyroyalregatta Hair styles have obviously changed a bit since then! #throwbackthursday #rowing #henley #london #1992 #legacy
