The UL Women’s 1st Eight raced to their best WEHORR finish in 13 years, and the UL 2nd Eight to their highest position since 2003, capping off a highly successful head racing season for the UL Women’s squad.

The UL 1st Eight, all students, raced home to 4th overall, coming second in the University category behind Cambridge University’s Blue Boat, the only student crew to beat UL this season. This was the highest ever finish for a full UL student eight at WEHORR. The UL 2nd Eight posted their highest finish in 14 years.

The 2016/17 head racing season opened in October with overall women’s wins at both the Pairs and Fours Head of the River races. A Bronze medal in the Eights at Brit Champs, behind Leander and Cambridge, and victory in the U23 Coxless Four rounded out racing pre Christmas.

The turn of the year brought success at GB Trials. A strong set of results included UL winning the U23 Women’s Pair. A fortnight later the UL Women were crowed British University Champions in Newcastle at BUCS Head. UL won the Women’s Team Trophy, and took Gold in both the Championship Eights and Championship Quads events.

The UL athletes would like to thank the alumni for the race kit provided. ULBC next race at Kingston Head before HORR on the 25th March.
