FISU Round Up – Gold and Finals for ULBC Athletes.

Yet again ULBC excelled at the FISU World Championships in what was a particularly blustery day of finals. In the women’s lightweight single, Emily Craig moved on from a strong performance at the U23 World Championships to win Gold. Rowing through an early Polish lead by the 500m marker, she converted her hard work into some international silverware in fine style with a winning margin of 8 seconds.

Also for Great Britain, the M4- stroked by UL alumnus Dominic Meyrick-Cole – were denied a medal by the Italians falling 1.6 seconds short in what was a very classy field. Representing Ireland, lightweight Orla Hayes came 4th in the lightweight double with compatriot Ruth Morris, 3 seconds shy of a bronze medal.

The performance that saw the greatest improvement over the Regatta came from Natalie Long in the Irish W4-, overturning the Norwegian crew in the B Final. With all the hard work put in by UL athletes this year, the FISU results have been a fantastic reflection.

We are now in preparation for what hopes to be an exciting 2014/15 season.
